We wrap many things (in many cases, things that are irrelevant to our happiness). Our ego, fear, shame. We wrap to be polite. We wrap to create distance. We might as well go to the extreme and do a zillion layers?

I told the staff at the register that I’d brought my own bag, but she still went ahead and put my purchase in one of those extra thin plastic bags (that they don’t charge for) while I was getting out my wallet.

Interesting how wrapping is more of a cultural than practical act.
